Record Breaking Robbie

Today is the birthday of Robbie Williams, one of the biggest stars in the world of music. As well as being part of the original line-up of UK boyband Take That, he has also had incredible success as a solo artist as the following records will show:

Most albums to reach number one in the UK chart by a British solo male artist
The most successful British solo male album act is Robbie Williams. When his album, Rudebox, topped the UK chart on 4 November 2006, it gave him his 8th No. 1 as a solo artist - equalling a record set in 1993 by David Bowie (UK). Unlike Bowie, Williams also chalked up three No.1s as a group member of Take That.

Most BRIT awards won by an individual
Robbie Williams has won 14 BRIT (British Record Industry Trust) Awards during his career - more than any other artist or act. His most recent win was for Best Song (of the last 25 years) Award, received for 'Angels' at the ceremony held on 10 February 2005.

Most entries at number one made consecutively on the UK album chart by a solo artist
The best chart start for a solo male album act is by Robbie Williams (UK) who had five successive No.1s on the UK album chart. The albums, released between September 1997 and November 2002, are: Life Thru A Lens (1997), I've Been Expecting You (1998), Sing When You're Winning (2000), Swing When You're Winning (2001) and Escapology (2002).

Most tour tickets sold in a day (concerts)
A total of 1.6 million tickets, valued at £80 million (US$142,825,258.47) were sold in the first 24 hours (November 19 2005) for Robbie Williams’ 2006 World Tour.
