7 October 2008 - New York City, New York
Under the ambient pastel glow of Manhattan’s trendy Splashlight studios, hundreds of people danced to a DJ’s pumping music while admiring ASICS America Corporation and Vitrorobertson’s electrifying new collaboration: the largest Lite-Brite image.
Their creation used 347,004 original size pegs strategically inserted into a perforated metal screen and spanned an impressive 2.74 m (9 ft) by 4.27 m (14 ft). The finished rainbow-colored image of an ASICS trainer, comfortably tread over the previous record, which used 124,418 original size pegs.
ASICS America Corporation and their advertising agency Vitrorobertson designed the panoramic piece as part of an overall branding campaign for the Gel-Lyte III trainer from the ASICS Sportstyle collection. The Gel-Lyte III features the original colors of the Hasbro Lite-Brite electric toy, first introduced in 1967.
Following its Guinness World Record certification in New York City, the colossal Lite-Brite will be featured in a 6 month US national tour including stops in New Orleans, Louisiana; Miami, Florida; and Aspen, Colorado.
