Longest distance on a treadmill by a female team

Treadmill

A new Guinness World Record for the greatest distance run in 24 hours by a team of 12 women was established on Thursday 5 June 2008 in La Défense, Paris. The team, who were running on treadmills, succeeded in their attempt, covering a total distance of 260.92 km (162.13 miles) in a 24h hour period.

The record attempt was organised by Shock Absorber – Playtex – DB Apparel, and began at 12:30pm on Wednesday 4 June and continued through the night until Thursday afternoon. For the challenge, the team of 12 was divided into four groups of 3, who covered a 6 hour period, taking turns to run for 30 minutes at a time. Independent judges took turns to monitor and record of the number of kilometres achieved. They were joined early on Thursday morning by Justine Bourdariat, Guinness World Record adjudicator, who came from London especially for this event.

At 12:30pm, on Thursday, the event concluded and Playtex, organisers of the event, were awarded an official Guinness World Records certificate by Mrs. Bourdariat. This record opens a new Guinness World Records category as no female team has ever attempted this record before. Congratulations to the record breakers who were not professional athletes and achieved this through great team work.
