Domino Showdown, Miami Style
278 Domino players of all ages gathered on 16 March at Calle Ocho, in the Little Havana section of Miami, Florida, USA to establish the Guinness World Record for "most people playing dominoes simultaneously".
In cooperation with Old Spice and PainePR, the event raised awareness of dominoes as much more than a past time, but rather as an important element of Latino culture whose appeal is rapidly becoming more mainstream while spreading to younger generations.
As Old Spice brand manager Rodrigo Coronel stated: "the game of dominoes has a deep, iconic heritage and we support all of the tournament participants who worked and sweated hard to help us make history."
Similarly, Manuel Oquendo, president of the USA Domino Federation expressed his satisfaction by saying, "we are thrilled for this opportunity to partner with Old Spice and the Calle Ocho festival, and to win a Guinness world record for this increasingly popular game we are so passionate about".
